The striking architecture of the War Memorial Museum in the Domain is worth a visit in itself and houses permanent exhibitions on New Zealand culture and also Maori and Polynesian history. There are also temporary exhibits on offer and with an advanced booking you can watch an authentic Maori performance, which includes a traditional haka. Auckland has many galleries featuring exhibitions of New Zealand art from the Auckland Art Gallery to the smaller, boutique galleries of Parnell. Auckland has several theatres, such as, The Civic, The Edge and Sky City, where recent shows have included Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. You can also enjoy one of the frequent opera, ballet and orchestral performances that are held throughout the year. Auckland hosts a comedy festival every year, which features international comedy acts but there are shows all year round, featuring homegrown comics. With the opening of the Vector Arena in 2007, Auckland attracts many international music acts and also has many smaller, intimate venues.
